What is Quality of Life?

Dear JONC.nl-readers,

Hello again, everyone!
My first entry seems to be readable hence the number of views. I would love to say a big Thank You for taking your time to stop by this new column.
You might all have noticed that the last entry was posted by the webmaster – Huy, and we would like to remain this way for a while, so please don't be hesitated to drop me a line below, I'd be rather glad to hear from you and reply in the next entry.

The day before my new start, I am feeling very nervous because it's been a while to work since I resigned from the job that I have worked for almost 7 years in the airport. I spoke to my ex-colleagues and they have sent me a lot of encouragement, they are sure that I can handle my new job very well.
It isn't really easy to have a fresh start, especially after a very long vacation. I've spent some time in England and the Netherlands last year, short visits to Hokkaido and Taipei before my study. Speaking of study, I'm currently taking a Professional Diploma course at Open U and am working on a group project at the moment. So you can figure it out it's getting busier for me from tomorrow...

It's always so competitive to live in Hong Kong, most of us need to further studies in order to keep our jobs, not to mention promotions. Working over-time becomes a very normal issue here, and we need to study in our spare time... how many hours left for us to rest then?
Of course I am not saying there is no fun in Hong Kong, I am sure there are a lot of things to do, like singing karaoke, clubbing, playing sports, playing mahjong, hanging out with friends and spending time with your family / beloved one. But for me, I'd always enjoyed my time in the Netherlands, my friends and I would meet in the city, settle ourselves in a very comfortable restaurant and chit-chat for a couple of hours. We'd wandered about in the city, inhaled the fresh air and admired the beautiful blue sky, which we don't always have back in Hong Kong. I miss going to Scheveningen with my friends, I miss Haring and Broodje Kroket. So... I seem to be healthier in the Netherlands for some reasons and yes I'd like to live in such comfortable country if I could have a job there for a living. Me @ Scheveningen in June, 2007

- Asian Dramas -

Are you a fan of Japanese/Taiwanese dramas?
And do you learn the language because you want to understand what they say in it?

My mandarin got improved by watching a lot of dramas from Taiwan, yeah... Meteor Garden helped me a lot along the way. Any F4's fans here?
I'd speak their language once I put myself into the story, I'd respond like I was acting in it... I know this is funny but at the end of the day you know it really works.
I'm addicted to Taiwanese dramas to be honest; I would follow the episode after it's just shown in Taiwan. Thanks to the internet, and there is a website, provides all kind of dramas from the United States, UK, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China and Korea. However its subtitles are all in Chinese, so if you'd like to watch them with English subtitles, you gotta search on the internet then, but I am sure it is not difficult since there is Youtube or if you could register TVB Pay Vision in the Netherlands as well? They have a Drama Channel, which is always on my telly at home. It's showing "Romantic Princess" at the moment, is here any Fahrenheit's fans here as well?

That's my life... work, study, internet and dramas!!!
I hope my first day won't be too exhausting because I still have a presentation to do in the evening, and hopefully I will be able to manage some time to watch the new drama "Rolling Love", which will be showing in Taiwan tonight.

Once again, thank you for reading this entry and please do not forget to drop me a line or a few below.

Cheers,
Kamen xx

    Hey huy
    intressante blog !

    Hi Kamen,
Nice blog! I was also addicted to Meteor Garden! I was studying Chinese in Beijing and an Indonesian classmate was a big F4 fan. I had never heard of them so she told me I had to watch Meteor Garden and then I would understand. So during one of the holidays I bought the VCD's and started watching. I was totally hooked after two episodes! And my Chinese improved also I have to say that I like the Taiwanese accent more than the Beijing accent

Did you live near the airport when you worked there? It seems to me that your public transport
costs should be high if you didn't live near the airport. Right?

  • Kenji · 04 mei 2008, 21:51
