Dear JONC.nl-readers,

Here I am finally!! I am sorry that I have taken forever to write a new entry. Life's been insanely busy at my end, I think I don’t need to repeat what I have been doing over here coz it's always the same... I am doing the same things for 2 months already.

I am missing the Netherlands so much; I can't wait to go back when I am finished with everything on my hands here; speaking of my ambitions, I have so many things to achieve. It isn't easy to live a life here in Hong Kong, unlike the lifestyle in Europe.
I was wondering how easy you would get a job there and how many days off annually.
It looks like you guys are able to enjoy your life far better than ours here and for some reasons I find it very strange that I feel like the day is longer when I am in Holland.

I rarely had a day off but got so many things to sort... I don't have spare time to be honest, I'd rather rest and rest when I have the time because work and study have taken up all my time and energy already. Comparing with Dutch, we don't have quality of life here at all, but in another terms of quality, we keep upgrading ourselves by continuing studies and providing more efficient processes at work. Is that life, eh?

Tourism in Hong Kong – what do we have here?

We have this well-known Victoria Peak, Victoria Harbour, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee... Avenue of Stars, lots of shopping malls, restaurants everywhere, convenience stores along the streets at every 2 blocks or even one. Legislations, Freedoms, Safety and Security, are what tourists concerned when they come for a visit.
Containers port – which is competitive among the one in Rotterdam, and do you know that the Netherlands is one of the largest investors in Hong Kong? For instance, I have provided professional service to the Philips' employers and employees since their Asia Pacific's regional headquarters have been relocated from Singapore to Hong Kong, and how many residents in Hong Kong are having at least one product by Philips? And KLM is transporting hundreds of people to Hong Kong every single day, and how many of you would prefer to fly with the Blue Flyer? I am quite satisfied with their flight schedule though, the only down side is that they don’t have seat-back TV in Economy Class, which allowed me to feel lucky enough when I was once upgraded to Business Class last year.

So, looking around here in Hong Kong and imagining the differences between this international city and the Netherlands, I couldn’t agree more that I’d rather live and work in the Netherlands. Even though I get to see the Victoria Harbour more than you guys, I’d still prefer to sit by Scheveningen and enjoy a cuppa tea with my friends.

Speaking of the beach, I am missing the lovely weather in Holland from last year, lots of sunshine... It's been raining constantly over here; it's just too much rain comparing with last years. I really hate the weather here; I don’t feel comfortable going to work every early morning bringing an umbrella at all. It’s certainly depressing when each day is started with pouring rain and ended with a tiring body without soul.

The Moment to relax...

Walking along the waterfront, taking the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour and enjoying the time on my own with headphones on, listening to my favourite tracks…
But if I were in the Netherlands, I’d go to see my friends in Den Haag and Rotterdam, go Yum Cha with them and chat for hours… or just stay at home, walk to the closest harbour and settle myself with a book and Strawberry Smoothies there. What would you guys prefer then?

Here are 2 graphics that I captured when I walked along the waterfront –
What can you imagine?

The first graphic reminds me of the Netherlands, I am sure you are all very familiar with this logo; and the second one in Purple, it reminds me of Lavenders in Hokkaido. A field of Lavenders and different colour of flowers like Rainbow, beautiful blue sky and the lifestyle in Hokkaido... I am so missing it.

As for the sun and the sea in Europe, I will definitely come back to Holland for that.
Hope you are all having a good start to summer

Cheers,
Kamen xxx

Fortis is actually a fusion in 1990 between Dutch AMEV and Belgian AG Group. The headquarters are based in Brussels and Utrecht.

Every country has its advantages and disadvantages for living. If you're living in a small town in the NL there's no such handy thing as the Chinatown. I will go back to HKG in September for the Chung Yeung festival(bye shan of course), but I don't like long flights at all!! Do you consider HKG as the best place in the world to live for wealthy Chinese? Normally the employees in the NL get 26 days off a year.

It is actually Belgium and not Dutch.. but well...

    Hey Kamen,

I can fully understand your frustations about the Oriental Pearl. When I was young, I had the intentions to return to my birthplace Hongkong forever, where I could reside with my family, native people (hey, born as a Chinese, you will always remain Chinese) and start a family. But in the past years I changed my mind dramatically, due to the development in the last ten years since the handover to the People's Republic of China. Every time I return to Hongkong for vacation, I always have problems with adapting to the environment. How can people live in such a little small place, with an estimated popluation of 7 million people (this number will increase in the next few years), incredible noisy, terrible air polution, outbreak of several (dangerous) diseases?
Hongkong citizens got a mentality I always hate, work and money are the most important in their life. They never go on vacation and relaxing, they are always stressed. I don't want to even mention about working conditions, where employees officially have only 8 or 10 vacation days in a year. Of course Hongkong has positive things, like the incredible beautifull nightview, chilling night life, shopping mals or the delicious traditional or western food.
But those are unfortunately not enough to convince me for a return to my once so beloved place. I am very disappointed. Hereby I rest my case.
