Making Changes

Dear JONC.nl-readers,

As everyone knows that we Chinese people are so hard working and able to adapt new changes under circumstances.
The way of life here in Hong Kong is so tense and we don't know either we are living for working or working for the living. It's so confusing, isn't it?
When do you know if you are suitable for this job or this job is suitable for you?
How shall we all choose in order to live better, sleep better and feel better?

When you finally got an offer which you had longed for, however you realized that you had been having trouble overcoming some difficulties, like you are allergic of something... how would you choose at this stage? Would you carry on and find a way to improve or try to look for something else as soon as possible?
But what if you'd chosen the first one and failed in the end... doesn’t it mean you’d suffered longer and more? And even you thought a better opportunity was just round the corner but... does it mean that it would be all right and better than the one before?

We have many says – No Loss No Gain, No Game No Gain, No Pain Go Gain
So how shall we take one offer than the other equality?
Do Dutch people have to think about their lives like we do? Do they have to worry about their lives? Why so many questions in this entry??? I want to be the boss for my own life - taken in Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan

In the past 3 months, I have been constantly smiling at work everyday, I have learned a lot of new things, made the differences, achieved the targets, earned better money and overcome some difficulties, but not totally. My satisfaction doesn't cover the fear that I have to face the next day... next day and next... not to mention no quality of life after a long day at work and lecture afterwards. taken @ Gay Pride in Amsterdam

If you were me, how would you answer the questions that I have posted in this entry?

Hong Kong perhaps is good to live when you have the money and don't need to worry for the living, yet being able to do whatever you like in your spare time, like spending time with family and friends, going out for fun and good food, doing sports and party... but is definitely not a healthy place to live in. That's why I flew away to Europe each year for more than 2 weeks in the past 8 years. Who doesn't want to breathe better and live happier?

    Dear Kaman,

Have you ever thought about emigrating to the United Kingdom? Although life in the UK is also expensive. Just like Holland.

The pace in NL is much slower than in HK. I was literally walking faster when I am in HK, and I can imagine the stress to live in HK. Much more excitement to experience but you are living by the day and the breathing room is less. Air pollution and much smaller appartements. I do not worry much about daily life here. Perhaps I should for being a contractor I do not know what my next project will be, or when. But it was my choice and luckily it is working fine at the moment. As Luuk said, start making plans to achieve your goal, ie live or work outside HK and be prepared for the sacrifices/bumps on the road. Have fun in HK till that time.

Take control of your life and start making choice, do not let someone else or circumstance guide you.

Every miss step you make will bring you closer to the path of happiness.

Accept the unpredictable walk of life, do not fear it and you will sleep easier.

Hope you find your yellow brick road like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz

No stress or long working hours here in the Netherlands, because Dutch society/mentality is de zesjes-cultuur. That means performing average is OK, you're no hero to be an out-achiever.

So when you gonna visit NL again??

If you emigrate to Holland wouldn't you miss your boy friend?

would you really like to move to holland for the rest of your life?
i returned to hk after having lived in holland for 15 years, now at work for a couple of months. also need to work like a dog and face stressful challenges everyday. sometimes i think: have i come back to hk for this? did i make the wrong choice?
but even though i need to make very long working hours i still find my job quite challenging AND i cherish every scarce moment of entertainment outside work. lifestyle in hk is very colorful after all.
every choice has a good and down side, since you already have chosen for your job, it probably suits u the best... don't worry too much + add oil la! (but i do agree u can breathe and relax much better in europe gei~ haha)

Any limits on how many words you can post, because this interface doesn't allow me to post dammit! Anyways I got 283 words, counted through Word. Perhaps Jonc is used that not many people will comment, nor post long comments, so they are cut the amount of words you can post?

Recently I read that HK has the 5th longest average working hours a week of the world.
I heard on the news that the government of HK will reserve extra money for the poor families.
It's the truth that HK is an excellent place to live for the rich. I also read that a British survey of this year mentioned that about 1 out of 4 people in HK is a millionaire in USD!!
